OpenAI management Team - Jim Wilson/The New York Times
This is perhaps really what the OpenAI turmoil is about. It is no longer simply about AI.
Open AI has moved on from AI which is what many of us are familiar with [tech that generally functions only within a specific set of parameters] to AGI [tech with a human level of cognition].
Clearly governments need to step in and provide guardrails (safety mechanisms), because at the moment, the AI (and soon AGI), space is like an orchestra without a conductor.
That said, AI can play a huge part in enhancing inclusion far quicker than any government or institution, given the extremely fast pace of progress in AI (weeks/months rather than years). As such, focus must now be on building 'INCLUSIVE AI' ensuring we all (especially women and people from marginalised communities), play a part in this development; that we have people from diverse backgrounds in the room - whether it's preliminary discussions, visibility in data-sets, coding, ML, governance and more.
It's not enough to pretend that it's not our problem because we don't work in tech. It is. And it can be a great opportunity. Whether it's in healthcare, education, inclusive architecture, agriculture, climate change and more, AI can help us come up with solutions at speed- not by replacing but by augmenting human intelligence.
In this TED talk, Ilya Sutskever (co-founder and chief scientist at OpenAI), discusses the transformative potential of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), highlighting how it could surpass human intelligence and profoundly transform every aspect of life. But, this comes with risk...The exciting, perilous journey toward AGI
