EQ+CQ=DQ methodology for Diversity & Inclusion

The EQ+CQ=DQ inclusion methodology is about coaching leaders & teams on building inclusive leadership skills through Empathy, Compassion & Respect.

EQ+CQ=DQ methodology also answers the: How, When & Where questions i.e. How, When and Where our behaviour can harm, upset, or offend people who are different from us.

WHAT & WHY?

Many organisations simply jump into DE&I training without first investing in Emotional Intelligence (EQ) & Cultural Intelligence (CQ) training. This often results in the Cultural Gap; the gap between the Culture As Intended (CAI) and Culture As Practised (CAP).

This is why Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and Cultural Intelligence (CQ) are, or should be, the bedrock of any Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) training as they are both important skills that enable teams & organisations to become truly inclusive.

Our coaching has shown that the EQ+CQ=DQ inclusion methodology leads to Diversity Intelligence (DQ), which fosters an inclusive culture within organisations. It is a holistic approach to changing or updating systems and institutions to make them more inclusive. EQ+CQ=DQ also tackles two important questions:

  1. Do people feel like they belong in their organisation or team?

  2. Do people experience fair and equal career opportunities regardless of their unique and different backgrounds or, skills & competences they contribute?

THE PROBLEM?

While some companies make D&I training mandatory (which can often result in little or no changes in culture once the course is complete), others are quietly dropping D&I training after experiencing backlash either from dominant group(s) who feel blamed, or marginalised employees who want nothing to do with ‘tick box’ exercises or worse, tokenism.

Consumers are also becoming all too aware of businesses jumping on the back of social change purely as an opportunity to sell more products

In addition, consumers are also becoming all too aware of businesses jumping on the back of social change purely as an opportunity to sell more products. So, whether it’s through or because of changes in technology, demographics, globalisation or, employee & consumer expectations, Diversity Intelligence (DQ) is a skill which is, and will be necessary, for teams, leaders and organisations to be able to thrive and, remain relevant.

THE SOLUTION - Coaching leaders & teams on:

(1) Emotional Intelligence (EQ)
(2) Cultural Intelligence (CQ) and only then, moving on to
(3) Diversity Intelligence (DQ).

EQ and CQ lay strong foundations for DQ and are skills that are useful in not just our workplaces i.e. building collaborative, inclusive teams & culture but, in our personal lives too. This makes D&I coaching easier for people to accept because upfront, it tackles the “What’s in it for me?” question. People can see how EQ & CQ can benefit them in all aspects of their lives.
